What in the ƬⱤƖꝒꝒƳ ƬⱤꓴƬǶ?! That’s some serious food pantry alchemy!
The mad scientist behind this discovery is a man named Dan Frost. As you may know, diamonds are created under unique conditions, where carbon atoms below Earth’s surface are squished with tons of pressure and blasted with tons of heat to create shiny rocks that we attach immense value to.
Naturally, to learn more about how Earth was formed way back when, Frost recreated these conditions using powerful presses, a furnace, and a cautiously reckless strategy. Eventually, a diamond maker capable of producing the gems out of thin air was born. That’s what we call a scientific magician!
The problem? Well, the diamonds took a very long time to create—weeks upon weeks. This led him to experiment further using other materials in his diamond maker. Much like a child tempted to put random objects in a microwave just to see what will happen. You can’t help but love it, because this is how we learned peanut butter can be used to create diamonds.
So, what’s the trick? Peanut butter is carbon-rich, and loaded with other elements as well. That’s why hydrogen kind of ruined the peanut butter diamond dream. You still get a diamond, but it’s not “clean” or “pure” like a diamond is expected to be. Who could have seen that coming?
Frost’s wacky experiments actually revealed some pretty cool details about Earth, believe it or not. Here’s a short list of a few insights that were gained:
Busted a theory that Earth’s mantle and meteorites would match compositionally, as it was discovered that the mantle has significantly less silicon than meteorites. The new theory suggests the silicon sank deeper and into the inner core, or our planet had a much bigger silicon crust at one point.
Frost’s process also created a mineral known as ringwoodite, “a deep-blue magnesium iron silicate that seems to hold water.” This suggests the mantle may be concealing oceans far beyond our reach.
The natural process of diamond creation within the mantle may have stabilized the environment here, allowing evolution of life to take place. Because diamonds are poor conductors of heat, it’s theorized that the diamond-studded mantle prevented chaotic conditions by regulating the core’s heat.
Isn’t it strange to think that diamonds may be the reason life was allowed to thrive here? Oh, not to mention, secret oceans that could contain life as we’ve never seen it before. I’ve been underground in the mines of Stardew Valley and trust me—you never know what you’ll find—gem and creature wise.
Nutty Facts about Peanut Butter
Peanuts are not nuts! They are legumes. So, technically, it’s legume butter.
It takes around 540 peanuts to create a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter.
In 2002, the largest peanut butter and jelly sandwich was made in Texas, weighing about 1,342 pounds.
It can be used as a hair conditioner, glue substitute, odor neutralizer, mouse bait, shoe polish, and for gum removal. So versatile!
There is a phobia of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth. It is called arachibutyrophobia.

Just to be clear, you cannot make peanut butter diamonds at home. The internet often lies and any video you see of someone suggesting they did so—those are trippy lies.
Still, you can look at that jar of peanut butter sitting in your cabinets—the one that has gone largely untouched for months now—with a bit more admiration and wonder.
Heck, you might even be in the mood for a good ole PB&J. Or should I say carbon butter and jelly sandwich? Yeah, that doesn’t have the same ring to it.
